VICTORIA, Seychelles – On October 5, 2023, Thai Union Group announced the appointment of Jamikara Techasaratoole as the new General Manager of its Indian Ocean Tuna (IOT) facility in the Seychelles, which ranks as the third-largest in the company's worldwide operations. Techasaratoole succeeds Ricardo Luzio, who has been at the helm of the factory since 2020 and is now taking on the role of Fish Procurement Director for Europe, based out of Paris. Caption 5: With approximately 1,800 employees, IOT is the largest private-sector employer in the Seychelles. Techasaratoole, who took on her new responsibilities on October 1, joined IOT in 2019 and quickly advanced to Assistant General Manager, working closely with Luzio. "As a crucial production site for Thai Union, IOT is committed to delivering competitive, high-quality tuna products to our European market. Despite the challenges we face operating from Seychelles, our team is dedicated to fostering a positive social impact for our employees and their families, continuing our focus on social responsibility and sustainability," she stated. Her prior experience and achievements at IOT made Techasaratoole the ideal candidate for this leadership position. She has notably improved the efficiency of the supply chain, planning, sales, and marketing departments in recent years, preparing her for the General Manager role. Techasaratoole, a Thai national, began her career with Thai Union's Management Associate program in 2015, which included international assignments in France focusing on supply chain management before her tenure at IOT. Luzio, a veteran with 31 years at Thai Union, previously managed the Group’s European Seafood Investments Portugal (ESIP) plant before leading IOT in 2020\. His financial acumen and extensive experience have been instrumental in enhancing IOT’s operational efficiency and productivity. "Together with Jamikara, we've managed to maintain production costs and provide stable employment for 1,800 individuals in Seychelles. Given the current challenges of uncertain market conditions, high inflation, and reduced demand in Europe, collaboration with key partners is essential for a sustainable operation. Jamikara is perfectly positioned to guide IOT into the future," Luzio commented. IOT is a cornerstone in achieving Thai Union’s SeaChange® 2030 sustainability goals, including becoming a closed-loop factory with zero water discharge, zero waste to landfill, and zero food loss by 2030\. The facility is also set to cover 30 percent of its area with solar panels, contributing to an 8 percent reduction in its total energy needs, and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent by 2030\. Additionally, IOT is leading the way in gender equality, with its first female General Manager and a balanced gender representation in its leadership team.
