Introduction of New Pigs at Danish Crown
On Monday, Danish Crown unveiled a growth plan aimed at securing more pigs for slaughter at their Danish facilities. The impact of this plan will be felt by employees starting from September 1, when Bonusgrisen members begin supplying pigs to Danish Crown. Morten Biel Hansen, a board member of Bonusgrisen and CEO of its sister company B2B Bonus, stated that their members have a strong preference for Danish Crown. They appreciate the cooperative structure of the company, which allows them to participate in decision-making. He also noted that the new strategy of Danish Crown has boosted the confidence of their members in the company. Bonusgrisen, established in 2007, aims to ensure its members receive the best possible price for their breeding animals, weaners, sows, and slaughter pigs. The organization handles approximately 2 million pigs annually, with about half being exported as weaners. Members supplying slaughter pigs will now also become cooperative members of Danish Crown, while maintaining their membership in Bonusgrisen. As new suppliers to Danish Crown, Bonusgrisen members will receive a year of free advice and a financial contribution of DKK 0.30 per kg. Søren F. Eriksen, CEO of Danish Crown Pork, explained that as part of their 4WD strategy, the board of directors of Danish Crown formed a committee to devise ways to increase the supply of slaughter pigs. One outcome is a growth package that offers a financial contribution to new cooperative members, benefiting all Danish Crown owners and their 8,000 employees in Denmark. It is anticipated that Bonusgrisen members will supply Danish Crown with approximately 600,000 slaughter pigs in the first year alone.
