International Acclaim for Antonius and Den Go'e Gris

On 30th October, Antonius and Den Go'e Gris, special pigs from Danish Crown, were internationally recognized for their excellent animal welfare. The award was given by the UK-based organization, Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), during the annual Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards held in Paris. The two pigs were honored with the Good Sow Award, acknowledging the high-quality conditions for sows in their stalls. Uffe Frovst, VP Domestic Market, DC Pork Denmark, stated that an increasing number of customers are showing interest in animal welfare. This led to the creation of the Antonius and Den Go'e Gris (The Good Pig) brands, where the pigs are given more space and overall better care, enhancing their well-being. This, in turn, improves the quality and flavor of the meat. Frovst further explained that the Antonius and Den Go'e Gris brands have allowed them to offer a broader product range to their customers, providing a competitive edge in the market. They plan to uphold and potentially enhance these differences compared to traditional production. For instance, from 2017, sows will be allowed to roam freely at all times. This marks the sixth year of CIWF presenting the Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards.
