Free Language and Dyslexia Classes for Employees at Danish Crown

In September 2022, Susanni Egebech, a 56-year-old employee at Danish Crown, was hesitant to write her own responses to messages and letters without someone else reviewing them. However, after attending weekly dyslexia classes for ten weeks at VUC in Ringsted during her work hours, she has gained more confidence in her writing abilities. Egebech, who works in the packaging department at Ringsted abattoir, is one of the 41 employees at Danish Crown who have participated in dyslexia education. The company also offers Danish lessons, which 87 employees have completed so far. The next batch of employees will begin in the fourth week. These classes are conducted during work hours, and the employees are paid DKK 165 per hour for the ten teaching days. Andreas Friis, HR director at Danish Crown, believes that as the labor market evolves, so do the skill requirements. Therefore, they offer their employees the opportunity to enhance their basic skills such as reading, writing, calculating, and using IT through training during work hours. The training is offered across Denmark in Frederikshavn, Herning, Sønderborg, Horsens, and Ringsted. All employees at Danish Crown are offered a classic FVU test to determine their skill level, and they are screened for dyslexia and informed about further training opportunities. Danish Crown's education ambassadors, located at all Danish sites, assist employees with the offer and handle the practicalities, including registration. Jan Thomsen, a 53-year-old employee who participated in the Danish lessons in Frederikshavn, encourages his colleagues to take up the offer as he has seen significant improvement in his skills in a short period. In addition to Danish and dyslexia education, digital education classes will also be offered this year to enhance the employees' digital skills. These classes will teach them how to use various digital platforms such as e-boks, borger.dk, sundhed.dk, etc.
