Cooke Aquaculture Scotland was honored to be the sponsor for the teams from Orkney and Shetland at the 2023 Island Games held in Guernsey. These teams were part of the 24 island teams from across the globe that participated in various sports, fostering friendships, creating memories, and reinforcing island ties. The athletes received support from the Cooke Community Benefit Fund. As a vital part of the coastal and rural communities where we reside and operate, Cooke backs a range of locally-led events, activities, and community projects that mirror our corporate principles and those of our teams. Murray Spooner, Communications Manager at Cooke Aquaculture Scotland, speaking on behalf of the Community Benefit Fund Sponsorship Committee, stated: “We take pride in having supported both Orkney and Shetland teams at the 2023 Island Games via our Community Benefit Fund. We've had the pleasure of witnessing the teams' progress throughout the competitions, and they've all performed exceptionally well! Cooke is deeply dedicated to the communities in which we operate, and it's crucial to us that we contribute to the social fabric and economic vitality of the surrounding coastal and rural communities. We encourage applications to our Cooke Community Benefit Fund to aid the fundraising endeavors of local groups, service clubs, and charities.” At the Games, Shetland's Katie Dinwoodie won a bronze in the 100m race, swimmer Jasmin Smith secured a bronze medal for the 50m breaststroke, the women's triathlon team clinched third place, and Seamus Mackay won a silver medal in the men's 1500m race. The Shetland football team also had some impressive victories, finishing seventh in the tournament. Orkney also had its share of triumphs, with Aly Kemp winning bronze in the women's 10000 metres. Stewart Stanger from the archery team won a silver medal in the single WA 1440 men's compound, and Orkney's football team secured third place in their group, finishing ninth overall. Edgar Balfour, Team Manager, speaking on behalf of the Orkney Island Games Committee, expressed: “Team Orkney is grateful to Cooke Aquaculture Scotland for their generous sponsorship. This support enabled our young team to travel to Guernsey and participate in the International Island Games 2023\. Without such crucial support, participation would be extremely challenging, and we are deeply appreciative of it.” Learn more about our Community Benefit Fund.
