Cooke Aquaculture Scotland has announced that its latest seawater site, Bay of Holland in Stronsay, has received organic certification from the Soil Association, coinciding with the start of Organic September. The site, which consists of 12 100m pens, was established in early 2021 and is populated with smolts certified organic by the Soil Association, each averaging 550g. A custom-built 200-tonne feed barge was also commissioned from Gaelforce to support the site. Cooke Aquaculture Scotland is the leading producer of organic Scottish salmon, exclusively farmed in the pristine waters of Orkney. This new certification increases the number of the company's Soil Association organic certified seawater sites in Orkney to ten. Organic September is an initiative endorsed by the Soil Association, the UK's foremost organic certification authority, to advocate for organic food and its production. Norman Peace, the Site Manager at Bay of Holland for Cooke Aquaculture Scotland, stated: "The start of Organic September is the perfect time to announce that our latest seawater site has received Soil Association certification. We have been consistently farming organic Scottish salmon for over ten years, and this recent certification for Bay of Holland underscores our dedication to upholding the Soil Association's stringent standards and delivering a high-quality product that is relished worldwide." Cooke Aquaculture Scotland, the top producer of organic Scottish salmon, supplies to supermarkets such as Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, and Tesco, as well as local gourmet food retailers like Jolly’s of Orkney.
