The proposal to shift our current Chalmers Hope seawater location in Scapa Flow has passed a significant milestone by obtaining planning permission from the Orkney Island Council. The council concurred that relocating this site to deeper waters with swifter currents would enhance fish health and the marine ecosystem in Scapa Flow. The planning permission also allows for an increase in the pen size from 100m to 120m, facilitating a rise in tonnage at the location. The existing 75-tonne hexagonal feed barge will be substituted with a custom-built 300-tonne "boat-style" feed barge. This will enable automatic feeding and improve conditions for the seawater site staff. It will also provide us with the adaptability to feed fish remotely if our site staff cannot reach the site due to weather and sea conditions. Now that we have obtained planning permission, we are awaiting regulatory approval from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Marine Scotland. If all goes according to plan, the new site will be built and filled with smolts in the first half of 2022.
