Cermaq has been recognized for its robust sustainability reporting, compared to other major Norwegian companies and global salmon farming businesses. Recently, Seafood Intelligence once again ranked Cermaq as the top global salmon farming company. "Transparent reporting on crucial issues is the foundation for gaining trust. It also serves as a resource for identifying and discussing areas for improvement with our stakeholders," says Jon Hindar, CEO of Cermaq. Cermaq's comprehensive report (www.report2014.cermaq.com) utilizes the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) reporting system, supplemented with additional tailored indicators that cover key aspects of salmon farming, such as vaccination programs, escapes, sea lice, fallow time, fish mortality, and medication use. "Sustainability reporting should go beyond self-reporting. Therefore, external auditing of our sustainability data is crucial to Cermaq. This is our fifth sustainability report that has been externally audited, which validates the quality of the report and enhances our credibility with our stakeholders," states Jon Hindar. The salmon industry is enhancing its overall sustainability reporting. The Global Salmon Initiative's (GSI's) introduction of a unified sustainability report for all its member companies, which account for half of the global salmon production, has been a significant move. "As the co-chair of the Global Salmon Initiative, I am proud of the group's accomplishments, not just in terms of transparency, but also in improving biosecurity and addressing future feed supply challenges," says Jon Hindar.
