State Secretary Roy Angelvik expressed admiration for Cermaq's investments in the region during his speech at the opening ceremony, highlighting the company's role in shaping the future of the salmon industry and generating job opportunities. A new benchmark for the salmon industry The factory, which is the most advanced and efficient salmon processing facility in Norway, is the first of its kind to be built in line with the industry 4.0 standard, thereby enabling full digitalization. It sets a new benchmark for the salmon industry and will stimulate the need for a more skilled workforce in the region. "This factory is part of a series of investments made by Cermaq in recent years, which have contributed to the growth of the industry and the creation of stable jobs along the coast," said Knut Ellekjær, Managing Director of Cermaq Norway. "With the inauguration of this factory, we are enhancing and fortifying the company for further expansion," added Ellekjær. Complete traceability of each fish The Steigen processing factory has implemented a system that allows for complete traceability of each fish, from its arrival at the factory to its processing and packaging. Cermaq maintains high standards for fish welfare and product quality. The new factory is designed for gentle handling of the fish, which will facilitate improvements in quality and compliance with stricter customer requirements. Collaboration with the local municipality The Steigen municipality has been instrumental in setting up the factory at Storskjæret, by providing the property and establishing the real estate company Storskjæret AS, which owns the factory buildings. The factory, which employs 55 people, spans 12,000 square meters and has a processing capacity of 270 tons per shift. A box factory has also been set up in conjunction with the processing factory to produce packaging material directly, reducing transportation needs and benefiting the environment. This box production was established in collaboration with Løvold Industri. BAADER, the main process supplier In January 2019, a fillet line will be added to the factory, creating jobs for an additional six to ten people. BAADER is the primary supplier of the main process, both in the processing factory and in the fillet line. "Today marks an exciting day for BAADER as we celebrate the inauguration of the Steigen processing factory. In close collaboration with Cermaq, we have managed to establish a new benchmark for the salmon industry. The factory will produce high-quality salmon, ensure animal welfare, and maximize cost-efficiency to meet consumer demands," said Robert Focke, Managing Director of the BAADER Group.
