Today, one of the biggest cultivators of salmon and trout globally, released its combined annual and sustainability report on www.report2014.cermaq.com. In 2014, Cermaq's operational outcome was NOK 428 million, prior to the fair value adjustment of biomass and adjusted for sales profits, based on an operating revenue of NOK 5 616 million. The EBIT per kg of fish sold in 2014 was NOK 3.8\. Cermaq Norway recorded its highest operational result ever, while Cermaq Chile's results were affected by lower prices in its primary markets and challenging biological conditions. Despite lower market prices in its main market, the Canadian operation performed well. Throughout the year, Cermaq met its growth objectives, including new "green licenses" in Norway and additional new licenses in the promising Region XII in Chile. The operational result was influenced by Russian trade measures and falling market prices in the second half of the year, according to Jon Hindar, CEO of Cermaq Group AS. The 2014 integrated report provides detailed information about Cermaq's performance in areas such as occupational health and safety, biodiversity, fish health, antibiotic and sea lice treatment, fish feed, energy, and regulatory compliance. EY, Cermaq's financial auditor in all operating regions, audited the sustainability section of the integrated report. Progress was made in Chile in reducing Caligus (sea-lice), but the SRS disease remains a significant concern. SRS not only causes high mortality in Atlantic salmon and trout, but it is also the primary reason for the increased use of antibiotics in Chile. Therefore, developing effective vaccines against SRS is a high priority, emphasizes Jon Hindar. Cermaq believes that transparent and relevant information will foster positive relationships with stakeholders and contribute to the industry's positive development. As fish farming is expected to play a more critical role in global food production, the industry must also show its commitment to sustainable development to gain trust and recognition, concludes Jon Hindar.
