Approval for Acquisition of Bacon Manufacturer

Danish Crown has set its sights on becoming a dominant force in the global bacon market. The company has already achieved its initial goal of becoming the largest bacon producer in Europe, thanks to its acquisition of a Dutch firm. Kasper Lenbroch, CEO of Tulip Food Company, a subsidiary of Danish Crown, stated that this new position provides unique opportunities to expand the bacon product category. He emphasized that the real work begins now, especially in terms of integrating the newly acquired company. The Dutch company, Baconspecialist Zandbergen, was established in 1984. Its production and administrative facilities are located in Haarlem, a suburb of Amsterdam. The company is currently increasing its production capacity to meet customer demands. Zandbergen, similar to DK-Foods in the pepperoni sector, operates as a lean company with minimal complexity. Its production is based on a limited number of core recipes. Lenbroch expressed confidence in the company's preparedness for the future and its ability to achieve the ambitious goals outlined in Danish Crown’s 4WD strategy. He noted that with the acquisition of DK-Foods earlier this year, they became the European market leader in pepperoni. The purchase of Zandbergen has also made them the leader in the bacon category. The goal now is to expand the business by at least an additional billion by 2021. Zandbergen primarily operates in private labels and is active in northern European markets such as the Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden.
