Alabama Establishment Honored with Workforce Development Prize by Regional Chamber of Commerce
Enterprise, AL Facility of Wayne-Sanderson Farms Honored with 2023 Workforce Initiative Award by Local Chamber of Commerce ENTERPRISE, Al. (September 27th, 2023) – The Enterprise Fresh Processing Facility of Wayne-Sanderson Farms was recently recognized by the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce with the 2023 Workforce Initiative Award. The award, given for their innovative strategies in employee recruitment, retention, and career development, was presented at the chamber’s annual Membership Awards Banquet and Meeting. A significant factor in the facility's success was its collaboration with the Alabama Community College system and Alabama Technology Network. This partnership led to the development of accredited apprenticeships with regional campuses, combining classroom learning with practical experience on-site. The workforce development initiative received a $27,340 grant from the state of Alabama to expedite training and career development for nearly 100 Wayne-Sanderson Farms team members and to provide opportunities for local students interested in the industry. The company also enhanced its recruitment and retention strategies, organizing job fairs, offering referral bonuses, competitive wage, benefit and retirement packages, and even providing transportation for employees—all aimed at attracting and retaining team members. Eddie Fortner, South Alabama area operations manager, expressed his gratitude for the award, emphasizing the collective win for the Wiregrass community when opportunities are created through collaboration.
