Danish Crown has today communicated to the Danish Supreme Court that we are positively addressing the allegations put forth by the Climate Movement in Denmark and the Danish Vegetarian Association regarding the use of phrases such as "Climate-controlled pig" and "Danish pig is more climate-friendly than you think." As such, Danish Crown acknowledges that our use of these phrases did not meet the standards of marketing law, and we accept a prohibition on their use in future marketing efforts. Since the initiation of the lawsuit, we have stressed the importance for us and other businesses to be able to share our climate initiatives to distinguish ourselves and make environmental efforts profitable – a belief we still hold. The extensive and detailed proceedings in the Western High Court have prompted constructive reflections and a beneficial discussion about the limits when a company needs to communicate about sustainability. It is clear that we have gained valuable insights from the lawsuit in the Western High Court. After pulling the campaign in 2021, we have maintained that we would abstain from using the phrases "Danish pig is more climate-friendly than you think" or "Climate-controlled pig" in our product marketing, irrespective of the court's ruling. As such, we also agree with the plaintiffs' claim to the Supreme Court that the specific promotions in question breached marketing law. A multi-level lawsuit is challenging in many ways. We now aim to move forward and concentrate our efforts on transitioning to a production process with less climate impact. In doing so, we will of course share our climate initiatives within the boundaries set by the Western High Court's ruling and this positive response to the plaintiffs' additional allegations. This implies that we will persist in sharing our climate initiatives at Danish Crown, but with a heightened focus on ensuring that our marketing promotions align with the guidelines clarified during the lawsuit.
