#### ABP Food Group, one of Europe’s leading privately owned agribusiness companies, has won the corporate category of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Business Challenge 2013

**29th November 2013:** ABP Food Group, one of Europe’s leading privately owned agribusiness companies, has won the corporate category of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Business Challenge 2013\. The award was presented last night to the CEO of ABP Renewables division Robert Behan, after a Dragon’s Den style ‘pitch off’ to a panel of 3 judges. ABP was recognised for the major steps it has taken to reduce the environmental impact of its businesses including substantial reductions in the company’s carbon footprint, waste to landfill and use of water since 2009\. Achievements since for ABP Ireland detailed in its entry included:

- a 20% reduction in emissions of CO2
- a 49% reduction in waste sent to landfill
- a 6% reduction in water usage
- a 106% increase in recycling of waste products

Robert Behan commented: “We are delighted to have won this award which is recognition of the substantial steps ABP has taken to grow its business in a sustainable manner. We are delivering year on year reductions in carbon, waste generation and water usage and have a clear set of commitments to deliver upon by 2020 that will see a further 20% reduction in energy usage, a 25% fall in our carbon footprint, and 10% less water used.” ABP has achieved the Carbon Trust standard for carbon and water reduction over the past two years through a wide range of initiatives including rain water harvesting and heat recovery systems. ABP is also a founding member of Bord Bia’s Origin Green Sustainability Programme.
