ABP Ireland has been granted complete ISO 50,001 certification, a prestigious international standard recognizing the company's superior energy efficiency practices across its six beef processing facilities in Ireland. This certification, endorsed by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), serves as a guideline for senior management to enhance the company's energy consumption practices. Every ABP site in Ireland has met the ISO 50,001 criteria, and plans are underway to extend this certification to ABP's fifteen locations in the UK. Moreover, ABP has distinguished itself as the first food company worldwide to achieve quadruple certification from the Carbon Trust, highlighting its efforts in diminishing its environmental footprint. Since 2008, ABP has managed to cut its CO2 emissions by 16%, decrease water use by 39%, and lower primary energy use by 17%. Additionally, the ABP beef division accomplished a significant milestone by achieving zero waste to landfill by the end of 2015\. John Durkan, the Sustainability Manager at ABP Food Group, stated, “Our commitment is to grow our business responsibly, without compromising our natural environment which is vital for our business's sustainability. Our initiatives range from reducing our carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency to collaborating with our farmers to streamline the supply chain. We are proud to be among the pioneers in Ireland to secure the comprehensive ISO 50,001 certification for all our Irish operations.” In addition, ABP has been recognized as International Green World Ambassadors at a ceremony in the UK this year, marking a significant achievement in the Food and Drink sector for innovation, competitiveness, and talent. Notably, ABP Ellesmere has become the first beef processing plant in Europe to be declared a Carbon Neutral facility by The Carbon Neutral Company, following the installation of an innovative Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit.
