ABP Food Group, a leading beef processor in Europe, has recently declared its new agreement to export beef to Japan, marking a significant milestone as the first Irish enterprise to secure a substantial beef contract with a Japanese entity since the lifting of the 2000 BSE-related embargo. The deal, worth in excess of €4 million, is set to kick off immediately, with the initial shipments anticipated to reach Japan at the start of the upcoming year. Ireland stands as one of the mere three European nations granted access to the Japanese beef market. Mark Goodman, the International Commercial Director at ABP Food Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the deal, stating, “It is with great pride that we announce this groundbreaking agreement, positioning ABP as the pioneering Irish supplier to the Japanese market post the BSE prohibition in 2000\. Given that over 60 percent of beef consumed in Japan is the highly esteemed Wagyu, the acceptance of Ireland’s grass-fed beef underscores the high quality and competitive edge of our product. The significant support from Bord Bia in promoting Ireland’s sustainable and hormone-free beef has been instrumental in penetrating the Japanese market. Our aim moving forward is to expand our presence and establish the prestige of premium Irish beef in Japan.” In recognition of its efforts to enhance and expand the exportation of Irish beef, ABP Food Group was honored with the esteemed multi-national exporter of the year award by the Irish Exporters Association last month.
