Today saw the launch of the AHDB Beef & Lamb Meat Training Scheme at ABP Food Group Doncaster site. Over a year in development the AHDB programme covers a number of modules from Beef and Lamb cut recognition and carcass trait identification, to customer service techniques and more advanced cutting methods and meat knowledge. ABP Food Group UK is the first meat company to engage with this programme and Elwyn Pugh has been passed by AHDB to be an approved trainer of the programme. Elwyn introduced 9 colleagues from the Doncaster site, alongside Beef Buying Manager Jon Biggs of Asda to the programme, in a session featuring presentations from AHDB’s Dick Van Leeuwen and Liz Ford, after which attendees sat 2 entry level examinations on cut recognition and supply chain understanding under timed conditions. Following just 2 weeks of revision using the AHDB study guides all attendees passed both examinations with the average pass rates of 96% and 93.5% respectively. Katharine Haenelt, Business Unit Director for ABP Food Group UK will now be developing an engagement plan to cascade this learning throughout the Doncaster site. Over the coming months, this training will be launched in ABP Ellesmere and Shrewsbury sites and beyond. Dick Van Leeuwen commented,
“I’m impressed with ABP Food Group’s commitment and dedication to developing their people from across all disciplines of their business including Commercial to Technical, NPD & Supply Chain in this training. Launching this alongside a major customer is a great step to a more collaborative supply chain for the industry.”
