ABP Food Group has distinguished itself as the first food processing company globally to secure the Carbon Trust Standard triple certification for an unprecedented third time in a row. The Carbon Trust Standard is a globally recognized independent certification that is awarded to organizations demonstrating effective action in reducing their environmental impact. This includes verified reductions in carbon emissions, water usage, and waste production. The certification acknowledges effective management and consistent improvements in sustainability performance year after year. ABP Food Group's commitment to sustainability is underscored by its "Doing More with Less" strategy, which set ambitious goals for 2020 aimed at significantly diminishing the company's environmental footprint. Dean Holroyd, the Group Technical and Sustainability Director at ABP Food Group, expressed pride in the company's achievement, stating, “ABP Food Group was the pioneer in the food processing industry worldwide to receive this esteemed accolade in 2014, recognizing our sustainability efforts. Securing this certification for the third consecutive time serves as concrete evidence of our leading position in the industry and our substantial progress in minimizing our environmental impact.” John Newton, Associate Director at the Carbon Trust, praised ABP Food Group's efforts, noting, “The meat produced in Britain and Ireland is among the most sustainable in the world. ABP Food Group has proven its leadership in sustainability by achieving significant, continuous reductions in its environmental impact. We are pleased to award the recertification to the Carbon Trust Standard, acknowledging the company’s success in further reducing carbon emissions, water usage, and waste in its operations.” In 2015, ABP inaugurated the most sustainable beef processing facility in the world in Ellesmere, Shropshire. This facility is self-sufficient, generating all its heating and hot water needs, and up to 100% of its electricity from bio-fuel, a by-product of its beef processing activities. Furthermore, last year, all of ABP’s facilities in Ireland were awarded the ISO 50001 international energy management standard, recognizing their efforts to enhance energy efficiency.
