ABP has been awarded the Platinum Level in the 2020 Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey by Business in the Community. This survey, which involved 100 organizations, serves as a benchmarking tool to compare and identify opportunities for enhancing environmental performance. It celebrates organizations that exceed their environmental legal obligations. George Mullan, ABP's Managing Director in Northern Ireland, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, “Given our reliance on natural resources for our products, we are acutely aware of our duty to preserve these resources for future generations. Sustainability is not just a concept for us; it is embedded in our operations. ABP operates as an integrated agri-business, with our primary activity of beef processing being supported by three additional divisions: pet foods, renewables, and proteins. This integrated approach ensures the sustainable processing of our products.” ABP has also made strides in its environmental commitments by having its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), aligning its sustainability efforts with the global objectives outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement. These targets encompass direct and indirect emissions from ABP’s operations (scope 1 & 2) as well as those from its supply chain (scope 3). Chris Conway, Chair of Business in the Community NI and Group Chief Executive of Translink, highlighted the growing importance of sustainability among stakeholders, suppliers, and the public. He praised the Survey as a platform for organizations to showcase their dedication to environmental stewardship, thanking all participants for their transparency in reporting their environmental practices. The survey receives sponsorship from Moy Park and is supported by the Department for Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs.
