A founding aquaculture executive retires from Cermaq
Geir Molvik boasts over four decades of expertise in the aquaculture industry. He has made significant contributions to the growth of fish farming both in Norway and globally. Over the last 15 years, he has strengthened Cermaq's standing as a top-tier salmon supplier in Chile, Canada, and Norway during his tenure at Cermaq. Yasuhiro Kawakami, Chairman of Cermaq Group, expresses his gratitude for Molvik's contributions and the impressive results achieved under his leadership. Molvik will remain at the helm of the company until Steven Rafferty, the current Managing Director of Cermaq Chile, assumes the CEO role in March of the following year. Molvik reflects on his privileged career in aquaculture, which has spanned the globe since the 1980s, and involved him in numerous exciting ventures. However, he feels it's time to close this chapter and reallocate his time. Consequently, he requested the board to find a successor earlier this year. Kawakami expresses his delight at having Rafferty's expertise to guide Cermaq in the future. Given Rafferty's global, commercial, and operational experience across the entire fish farming value chain, Kawakami believes he is well-equipped to take over Cermaq's management responsibilities. Molvik shares his goal of positioning aquaculture as a solution to global sustainability challenges. He emphasizes the importance of producing healthy, eco-friendly food and communicating this to stakeholders for the industry's continued growth. Rafferty, who will take over from Molvik in March 2022, expresses his anticipation to lead Cermaq and acknowledges the support he has received from Molvik over the years. As CEO, Molvik has focused on enhancing operations across the value chain and positioning Cermaq as a leader in international collaboration on climate action and environmental performance in aquaculture. After his departure next year, Molvik will remain available to Cermaq. Steven Rafferty, who assumed the role of MD of Cermaq Chile in 2019, has revitalized the company under his leadership. Before joining Cermaq, Rafferty held various executive roles in several international aquaculture companies over the past two decades, and also served as CFO and COO in the Cermaq Group. Rafferty will maintain his current role as MD in Cermaq Chile until his relocation to Norway, and his replacement in Chile will be announced in due time.
