$59 Million Investment by Tyson Foods to Enhance Pennsylvania Distribution Facility

The local economy will benefit from an additional 114 jobs due to a project Pottsville, Penn. – July 6, 2017 – Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) is allocating $59.7 million to enlarge its distribution center in Pottsville, Penn. This initiative will create jobs, enhance efficiency, and facilitate the company's growth strategies. The project, set to commence this summer, involves the construction of a 164,000-square foot extension to the existing facility. The Pottsville distribution center currently caters to retail and foodservice clients in the Northeast region, including several states. The expansion is projected to be finalized in late 2018, and it will create 114 jobs, increasing the total workforce at the distribution center to approximately 220. Gregg Uecker, senior vice president of network planning and integration, stated, "This expansion will enable us to more effectively serve our clients and distribute our full range of protein-rich brands from a single distribution center. New technology will also enhance team member safety and reduce our carbon footprint." He expressed gratitude to the Department of Community and Economic Development for their assistance and ongoing support of the company's growth in the community. Tyson Foods was offered a funding proposal from the Department of Community and Economic Development, which includes a $46,400 WEDnet grant and $228,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, to be allocated upon the creation of the new jobs.
