Funds are being channeled towards education, alleviating hunger, providing housing and meeting other community needs in Humboldt, Tennessee. Tyson Foods has announced the allocation of $500,000 in community grants to six non-profit organizations in West Tennessee. The grants are primarily targeted at the City of Humboldt and Gibson County, where Tyson Foods has recently initiated the construction of a new chicken processing facility. Tyson Foods worked closely with a team of leaders from Gibson County to determine the areas where the grants would have the most impact. Doug Ramsey, group president of Poultry for Tyson Foods, emphasized the company's dedication to the community of Humboldt and Gibson County. He highlighted the company's focus on education and hunger relief, and the need to address long-term needs such as housing and child care. Tyson Foods' commitment to strengthening communities through education is evident in a $175,000 grant to Humboldt City Schools for the purchase of 280 laptop computers for high school students. Humboldt Director of Schools, Dr. Versie R. Hamlett, expressed excitement about the partnership with Tyson Foods, which will enhance student engagement and transform teaching and learning. Furthermore, a $150,000 grant was given to DonorsChoose.org for Gibson County teachers to apply for microgrants to fund new projects or curriculum for their classrooms. The University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (UTCIS) received $115,000 to conduct research on housing and childcare availability and affordability in Gibson County and surrounding counties. Paul Jennings, UTCIS Executive Director, expressed eagerness to work with Tyson Foods and West Tennessee communities to understand and address these issues.
